HID Global Launches the OMNIKEY® 6321 USB Reader

The industry’s first mobile contactless USB smart card reader with iCLASS® support.

IRVINE, Calif., November 5, 2008 - HID Global, the trusted leader in providing solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced the launch of the first device in the series of OMNIKEY® 6321 USB smart card readers. As the industry's first mobile contactless USB-connected reader for logical access control with iCLASS® support, this unique dongle-sized form factor works seamlessly with the company's HID on the Desktop™ solutions, expanding the company's logical access control offerings for converged security environments.

A strong complement to the full line of innovative, high-quality OMNIKEY desktop and mobile readers and driver infrastructure, the OMNIKEY 6321 Contactless and Contact USB Reader includes:

  • Dual interface PC-linked USB reader reads/writes to both a 13.56 MHz contactless smart card and virtually any SIM-sized contact smart card
  • Supports HID iCLASS and MIFARE, as well as ISO 14443 A/B and 15693 standards for contactless cards
  • Compliant with ISO 7816 standard for contact cards and Microsoft® WHQL
  • Features host interface USB 2.0 and is compliant with USB 1.1

Supporting contactless smart cards up to 848 Kbps, OMNIKEY 6321 series readers provide fast data transmission and have a durable housing design that is fully optimized for advanced contactless applications. In addition, the readers are compliant with all relevant safety and environmental standards, including CE, FCC, UL, RoHS and WEEE. The device is available for delivery by the end of November 2008.

HID Global will demonstrate the OMNIKEY 6321 reader, and other access and identity management innovations, in the HID Global stand (#3H002) at CARTES & IDentification 2008 in Paris, France, from November 4 - 6. CARTES attendees are invited to visit the booth to encounter a "World of New Possibilities" enabled by HID technology.
